The collections of photographs comprise about 55,000 positives and 30,000 negatives in which the beginnings and development of Czech photography is followed; starting with a collection of daguerreotypes, cabinet photographs and “cartes de visite” produced in studios in the 19th century. Also included are unique photographic studies by Alfons Mucha. The 20th century is represented by the internationally renowned work of František Drtikol and Josef Sudek. The Czech photographic avant-garde is also well represented. The second half of the 20th century is documented by, apart from other items, diplomas of graduates from the School of Film Art (FAMU) in Prague. Examples of photography in advertising is also to be found here. The work of Nadar and Man Ray represents foreign photographs in the Museum’s collections.
